Welcome to our blog post where we dive into the world of fragrances and the importance of cargo security measures specific to the UK and European markets. Fragrances, being high-value and high-demand items, are vulnerable to various risks throughout the supply chain. From theft and counterfeiting to potential damage and shipment delays, the consequences can be far-reaching and impact a company's reputation, sales, and customer satisfaction.

Our aim is to provide you with peace of mind by mitigating risks and preventing any disruptions to your business.
History of Perfumes & Aftershaves
Fragrances have an enchanting history that spans thousands of years, deeply rooted in ancient civilizations like Egypt. Scented oils and perfumes were not only used for rituals but also for personal adornment and to combat unpleasant odours.
As we entered the 20th century, fragrances saw a remarkable surge in demand, owing to advancements in manufacturing techniques and the flourishing beauty and personal care industry. This era witnessed the birth of renowned perfume houses and the iconic fragrances that continue to captivate us even today. The introduction of synthetic fragrance compounds further expanded the assortment of scents available, offering consumers an even wider range of choices.
The fragrance market continues to evolve, experiencing continuous growth. Currently, the United Kingdom and Europe stand out as vibrant markets for fragrances. Sales reports indicate that global annual sales of fragrances have reached an impressive £43 billion. These figures underscore the ongoing global demand for fragrances, highlighting their vital role in the beauty and personal care industry. From soaps and lotions to scented candles, fragrances remain a key component of these products, captivating and delighting consumers across the United Kingdom and Europe.
Associated Risks with Shipping Perfumes & Aftershaves
When it comes to shipping perfumes and aftershaves, we know maintaining a consistent temperature is crucial. Extreme heat can degrade the essential oils and scent compositions in perfumes, which is why proper temperature control and monitoring are imperative. Additionally, the flammable nature of fragrances requires them to be transported in temperature-controlled and monitored conveyances, ensuring the utmost safety throughout the journey.
In the United Kingdom, retailers must follow guidelines set by the Post Office, Perfumes & Aftershaves (including eau de parfum and eau de toilette and alcohol-free perfumes, but excluding non-flammable perfumed creams, gels, oils or lotions) Must be sent in its original retail packaging, placed in strong outer packaging and cushioned to prevent breakages. A maximum limit of 150mls is allowed to be shipped as a parcel and an ID8000 label must be also applied to the packaging.

Safe Transportation of Perfumes and Aftershaves
To ensure the safe transportation of perfumes and aftershaves, follow these guidelines:
- Packaging: Wrap the perfume bottle in bubble wrap, securing the package with our tamper-evident void security tape to prevent unauthorized attempts to open the package during transit, leakage, and breakages.
- Cushioning: Use packing materials to provide cushioning and protect the fragile glass containers from damage during transit.
- Labeling: Follow proper packaging and labeling regulations for dangerous goods, as shipping perfume is considered complicated due to its nature.
- Shipping Method: Perfumes may need to be shipped via ground transportation rather than air due to restrictions on air shipping. Securing the vehicle trailer or container doors with our 3.5mm or 5mm Flexsecure Cable Seals acts as a barrier to prevent the doors from being opened.
